I have finally finished my Analyzing Vietnamerica project. For me, the hardest part about this project was comparing a sophisticated graphic novel to a topic (autoethnography) that I was not familiar with before taking this class. Nevertheless, I am proud of how my work came out.

For this week’s Sunday Funny, I disassembled my phone in order show each of its parts.
For this weeks Sunday Funny, I drew an image using an object from my surroundings (a pen). You can check out my inspiration for the drawing here.
Earlier today I finished my Mapping Fun Home project. Needless to say, it was very difficult to complete. Perhaps the hardest part was just figuring out what I was going to do. When I eventually did come up with an idea, it took me a while to decide how I would act on it. In the end, though, I believe my map offers a unique, holistic interpretation of Fun Home.

For this Sunday Funnies assignment, I created a visual poem using a page from Rick Bass’ Cats and Students, Bubbles and Abysses.
My poem:
I found everything good , bad, or indifferent.
I was pleased.
I had friends.
But I don’t tell them that I’m thinking about leaving.
They all think they know what I am going through.
I know lots of people who are leaving.
The reason is because the world, very loudly, curses.
For this week’s Sunday Funny, I chose a quote by Thomas Jefferson that really speaks to who I am. I personally hate feeling like I am not being productive; therefore, I intend to spend every minute of my life doing something.

After taking the time to review my Tracing Persepolis project, I decided to change several things. First off, I simplified the splash page because I thought it contained unnecessary background information. Second, I added more annotations about style to my page 133 tracing. Third, I revised my themes page and corrected my analysis of page 153. Before, the analysis was not focused directly on the themes found on the page. However, now it ties in with my analysis of page 133 and offers better insight into the themes presented on page 153. Finally, I added analysis to my style page that relates my project to another student’s. Lily’s project specifically made me think differently about my style analysis of page 153.
For this week’s Sunday Funny, I mapped out Dan’s Tracing Persepolis Project. I used bubbl.us in order to make a flow chart of his work.
Now that I have finished my first draft of the Tracing Persepolis project, I want to take a moment to reflect on my work. First off, I underestimated the time it would take me to complete the project. This was not necessarily a bad thing; in fact, it forced me to think critically about the text. I never realized how much I could learn from two pages of Persepolis until I took a few hours to trace them.
My main goal for the project was to explore Satrapi’s purpose in writing her memoir. This specifically meant diving into the themes and style of each page I traced. I feel as though I grasped the most important ideas from each page as I was writing my project pages. Please feel free to leave a comment with your opinion.
